Job description

CTG overview

Overview of position

To respond to the many challenges people in Libya are facing, Our client, approach is to put the country on a more robust development path by helping the local authorities to restore security, essential services delivery and livelihoods opportunities. With funding from the European Union, our client  has started the project “Strengthening Local Capacities for Resilience and Recovery.” A three-year initiative that is being implemented in close cooperation with national and international partners. The European Union and our client  are working together to support local authorities in the West, East and South of Libya with the aim of strengthening their capacities to serve the people through:

Output 1. Local Capacities for Service Delivery

The project is supporting local institutions to improve sustainable access to health, education, water, electricity, sanitation – and socio-economic recovery for the whole population, with special attention to vulnerable groups.

 

Output 2. Strengthen community security and local model police

Libyan’s formal justice system has been damaged over the past years, with more and more people relying on informal justice and security arrangements. However, studies indicate that Libyans crave the restoration of state in an independent judiciary.  The project works with rule of law institutions, including the police, to manage the impact of irregular migration, protect the rights of migrants, and introduce deterrents to abuses of rights.

 

Output 3. Livelihoods and local economic recovery/development

The project is identifying areas of potential economic growth and support economic recovery strategies which will help to stabilize income generation, emergency employment, and the reintegration of migrants, IDPs, and returnees; as well as create sustainable and decent jobs.

Role objectives
• Write 500 to 800-word human interest stories on the impact of the project initiatives in the selected municipality. This will require travel to the project sites and interviews with a range of stakeholders – municipal authorities; project partners; beneficiaries of these activities, etc. 
• Ensure at least 15 high-quality (high resolution) professionally shot photographs to accompany each story. These photographs must depict locations and people who have benefited from our work. They must be action pictures.
• Video footage, including b-rolls and interviews following video work plan and scripts defined together with the project team and the communication unit.
• Video editing of 1-2 minute videos showcasing project results and impact, including b-roll and interviews with beneficiaries and stakeholders.
• The Field Reporter is expected to work in close collaboration with tour client Communication Unit under the Local Peace building and Resilience project. The number of days per assignment will be as agreed with the Project/ Communications Unit
• Revise/ edit stories as per feedback received and finalize keeping in mind, global audiences for the stories.

The following are the key deliverables expected during and towards the end of the assignment:

• Submit monthly work plan schedules with suggested stories and photo documentation.
• Submit 500-word human interest stories at agreed schedules.
• Submit at least 15 high-quality photos per story (captions embedded in photos + submitted separately as a word file).
• Submit pre-edited videos of 1-2 minutes that showcase the results and impact of project implementation, including b-roll and interviews with beneficiaries and stakeholders.
• Submit between two and three packages of b-roll and video interviews that will be edited later to create a video story.
Project reporting

The reporter will be on an open contracthe/she will work remotely on tasks assigned on a needbasis. He/she will be guided and coordinated by the Communication Associate and supervised and evaluated by our client  Libya Communication Analyst.
