Overview of position

 

UNICEF Libya is looking for a short-term writer to support the communication team in realizing agreed communication plans and programme requirements as per the donor and partners requests for a period of 4 months. Under the general guidance of the Communication section, the consultant will be responsible for writing and editing human interest stories and capturing high resolution photos with captions. The stories and photographs, which give a human face to donor proposals and reports, will focus on individual beneficiaries of UNICEF supported programmes in Libya. The material will be used to support donor reports as well as shared on the UNICEF website.

Role objectives

Key Task and Responsibilities
• Review the Country Programme Document, Situation Analysis Report, UNICEF regional and Global Communication Strategy and available project proposals and reports.
• Liaise with Programme staff to identify relevant programme areas and counterparts to engage in the development of the human-interest stories and photographs.
• Travel within the country to collect information, perform interviews and related tasks for the purposes of producing human interest or other stories and/or documenting UNICEF supported activities, donor visits and other events related to UNICEF work. • Capture appropriate high-resolution photographs for each of the human-interest stories to be published in donor reports, proposals, programme documents, social media, UNICEF websites, power point presentations, social media packages and exhibition kits.
• Teachers, parents and others impacted by the programme may be interviewed to provide perspective, background or complimentary information. However, the story should as far as possible be told from each child’s perspective.

Project reporting

The consultant will report to UNICEF Communication Specialist.

 Administrative considerations
• The consultant will work on his/her own computer(s) and use his/her own resources and materials in the execution of this assignment.
• DSA will be paid for assignments requiring travel outside Tripoli.
• All stories and photographs produced by the consultant will remain the property of UNICEF for unlimited use.
• The consultant will bear the responsibility of ensuring that the parent or guardian of each child sign a waiver (to be provided) giving permission for the collection of information and taking of photographs.
• The consultant will strictly adhere to UNICEF’s policies and guidelines around photographing of children in vulnerable situations (to be shared).
