Overview of position

Under the overall supervision of the Programme Coordinator (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)) and the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Associate (MHPSS) / Team Leader / Medical Doctor, and administrative supervision of the Head of Sub-Office / Regional Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for implementing community-based Psychosocial Support (PSS) activities. The Social Worker (PSS) will support individuals, families, and communities to strengthen coping mechanisms, resilience, and access to appropriate services, in accordance with ethical standards and socio-cultural sensitivities.

Role objectives

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Deliver structured psychosocial support activities for individuals, families, and groups in community and facility-based settings.

  • Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) to individuals affected by stress, crisis, or displacement.

  • Identify psychosocial needs, vulnerabilities, and protection risks among displaced and migrant populations.

  • Support the implementation of community-based PSS activities that strengthen positive coping strategies and resilience.

  • Facilitate group sessions, awareness-raising activities, and community dialogues on psychosocial wellbeing.

  • Ensure appropriate referral of beneficiaries requiring focused or specialized mental health services.

  • Maintain confidential and accurate documentation of beneficiary information and PSS activities.

  • Support routine monitoring, data collection, and reporting of PSS activities.

  • Work closely with MHPSS Counsellors, medical staff, and community structures to ensure integrated services.

  • Participate in coordination meetings and relevant technical working groups at local level.

  • Ensure all activities are culturally appropriate, gender-sensitive, and aligned with our client and IASC MHPSS guidelines.

  • Carry out any other duties as assigned in support of MHPSS programme implementation.

 Required Qualifications and Experience

       Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution with at least one (1) year of relevant experience

           Or

  • High school diploma from accredited institutions with three (3) years of relevant counselling or MHPSS experience.

Experience:

  • Experience in delivering community-based psychosocial support activities.

  • Experience working with displaced, migrant, or vulnerable populations.

  • Experience in humanitarian or development settings is an asset.

  • Ability to work effectively with community structures and multidisciplinary teams.

 Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to document and report psychosocial activities accurately.

  • Demonstrated empathy, professionalism, and respect for confidentiality.

  • Willingness to work under supervision and adapt to challenging field contexts.

 Languages:

  • For all Applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

  • Working knowledge of Pashto or Dari is required.

  • Fluency in all national language(s) are highly advantages.
