Overview of position

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Programme Associate/Programme Associate (Migration Health) and the direct supervision of the health facility Team leader/MD, the incumbent will assist in ensuring that basic medical screening, nursing, and dispensing duties are carried out, particularly in the areas of reproductive, maternal, and child health care. The incumbent will be deployed based on identified health needs amongst migrants, returnees and displaced populations and may include border and remote areas. The incumbent is expected to carry out his/her duties in accordance with the strictest ethical standards, with due respect for gender and socio-cultural sensitivities, and to work assigned shifts, including night duties.

Role objectives

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Conduct health screening of travelers and returnees at Points of Entry and other high‑mobility locations using approved protocols.

  • Identify signs of communicable diseases and public health risks and take appropriate nursing action or referral.

  • Provide basic nursing care and first aid, including patient assessment, vital signs monitoring, and wound care.

  • Apply and promote infection prevention and control (IPC) measures during screening and service delivery.

  • Support disease surveillance and early detection, including timely reporting of priority diseases and alerts.

  • Facilitate emergency referrals to designated health facilities and ensure completion of referral documentation.

  • Conduct basic nutrition screening for children under five and pregnant/lactating women (MUAC, weight, height, edema).

  • Provide basic nutrition and health education, including MIYCN messages, and refer malnutrition cases as per guidelines.

  • Dispense prescribed medicines and supplements in line with SOPs and good dispensing practices.

  • Maintain basic stock records, conduct routine stock checks, and report shortages, expiries, or damages promptly.

  • Ensure accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of services using approved reporting tools.

  • Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Diploma in Nursing from an accredited academic institution and recognized & registered by the Ministry of Public Health with one year of working experience.

            Or

  • High School diploma with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience.

Experience:

  • At least one year of experience in relevant clinical fields activities after graduation.

  • Previous experience in an international organization is an advantage.

  • Knowledge and experience of working in the field and medical emergency department, and Trauma management will be added as an advantage.

  • Previous experience in providing Psychosocial First Aid will be advantageous 

 Skills:

  • Proficient in core nursing competencies, including clinical assessment, infection prevention and control (IPC), medication administration, phlebotomy, health screening, surveillance data collection, and patient health education.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate effectively with partners, and beneficiaries to support service delivery and referral pathways.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • A patient and compassionate disposition.

 Languages:

  • For all Applicants, fluency in Dari and Pashto is required (oral and written).

  • Working knowledge of English is required.

  • Fluency in all national language(s) are highly advantages.
