Overview of position

Under the overall supervision of the MHU Programme Coordinator, and under the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer and administrative supervision of the relevant Regional Coordinator, the incumbent in collaboration with relevant units will be responsible and accountable for regular supervision of the health facilities, capacity building of the health facility staff, data management, supply of medicine and vaccine of all Health and Immunization related activities under Migration Health Unit (MHU) in the east/southeast regions implemented in close coordination with the main health partners and the technical coordination entities.

Role objectives

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the implementation of the Migration Health Unit (MHU) immunization program and operations in the related region/province.

  • Assist the field team in developing the microplanning and the implementation of the health and immunization activities up to the catchment area level in coordination with the PPHD, EPI/GPEI local representatives

  • Support the field team in coordinating the services within MHU (Health Operation support, Health Information Management & Reporting, Capacity building, etc.)

  • Support the coordination of immunization and the migration health projects in the relevant region/province.

  • Provide support in supervising the routine immunization activities, data analysis, and capacity building

  • Check and ensure the health facilities are not facing a shortage of medicine, data collection tools, vaccine and non-vaccine materials.

  • Participate in key coordination forums and technical meetings at the Provincial level such as Regional Cluster meetings, Migration Health Working Group (MHWG), Provincial Public Health Coordination Committee (PPHCC), EPI, EOC, EPR meetings and other coordination platforms as relevant in the region/province.

  • Provide timely feedback to the national programme officer and SPA related to key findings during the monitoring and supervision visits.

  • Undertake duty travel, as necessary and in accordance with current security protocols, to support the implementation and oversight of vaccination and routine immunization projects, provide timely feedback, facilitate staff training, deploy as part of mobile/emergency teams, and coordinate with partners across the provinces.

  • Provide support in the implementation of the population mobility mapping (PMM) exercise or any other health assessment in any province where MHU is operating.

  • Support in documentation and lessons-learned reviews of both successful and unsuccessful field practices and support the development of beneficiary success stories.

  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by his/her supervisor.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine, public health, epidemiology, or related field from a recognized university or institute, validated by the Ministry of Higher Education of Afghanistan with two years of relevant professional experience.

Or

  • High School diploma with a minimum of three (4) years of relevant professional experience

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of managerial experience in a public health program

  • Working experience in Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) projects would be an advantage

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office software applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Explorer, PowerPoint, Access)

  • Flexibility and ability to work with minimal supervision under pressure to meet tight deadlines

  • Ability and willingness to travel inside Afghanistan

Skills:

  • Excellent Communication Skills

  • Advocacy and negotiation Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal.

Languages:

  • For all Applicants, fluency in Dari and Pashto is required (oral and written).

  • Working knowledge of English is required.

  • Fluency in all national language(s) are highly advantages.
