Overview of position

Under the Enhancing Community Resilience Project Phase II (ECRP II), We are implementing disaster risk reduction activities including construction and rehabilitation of flood protection dykes and drainage systems in several locations in South Sudan. To support these activities, CTG will engage five Dykes and Drainage Operational Assistants to operate excavators and assist with earthworks required for project implementation.

The assistants will work under the direct supervision of the Senior field engineer and in coordination with the project team under ECRP II.

Role objectives

The Dykes and Drainage Operational Assistants will be responsible for:

Operating excavators to support construction and rehabilitation of dykes, drainage channels, and related earthworks.

Driving and manoeuvring the machinery safely within project sites.

Conducting daily equipment checks and basic maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and monitoring fuel and oil levels.

Immediately reporting any mechanical issues or equipment malfunction to the supervising engineer.

Strictly adhering to safety, security, and operational procedures while working on site.
Always using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Reporting any incidents, accidents, or security concerns related to site activities or equipment operations

Supporting engineers and site supervisors in achieving daily work targets.

Project reporting

The assistants will work under the direct supervision of the Senior field engineer and in coordination with the project team under ECRP II.

Key competencies

Bachelor’s degree or vocational training in heavy equipment operation is an advantage.

Completion of secondary school education is required

Minimum 2–3 years of experience operating excavators or similar heavy machinery in construction or earthworks projects.

Proven experience in dyke construction, drainage excavation, flood protection works, or similar civil engineering activities.

Basic knowledge of machine safety procedures and light equipment maintenance.

Ability to operate machinery safely and follow instructions from engineers and site supervisors.

Ability to work in remote and challenging field environments.
