Overview of position

Our client was established in 2011 under the auspices of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO); subsequently, their mandate has been renewed through many resolutions.

Role objectives

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Welfare Unit, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Contributing to the preparation & implementation of the welfare unit work program of activities & finance / budget, including ensuring financial resources are utilized in accordance with activities approved & in accordance with regulations, rules & mission directives.

  • Assist in preparing the unit’s preliminary budget proposals for the next financial year.

  • Assist in preparing the unit’s quarterly financial performance report.

  • Monitor, review expenditures & ensure that funds are expended under the correct budget lines within welfare unit.

  • Prepare purchase requisitions & shopping cart order forms for goods & services to ensuring correct objects of expenditure have been charged, availability of funds & goods are ordered under correct product IDs for the welfare unit.

  • Contributing to the compilation of welfare procurement requirements (description of quantities, technical specifications, evaluation criteria, inspection of goods received, submission of deficiency reports, performing technical evaluations) & processing through established administrative channels for shopping cart raising & commencement of tendering exercises.

  • Monitoring & evaluating welfare contractors including bringing to the attention any performances that are not in keeping with expected mission standards & / or contractual obligations for corrective measures to be taken.

  • Review invoices for services delivered / rendered against a purchase order & ensure that service certification is processed on time.

  • Monitor overall contract compliances of contract under his / her care including site visits.

  • Review draft Scope of Works or Scope of Requirements (SOWs / SORs) for discussion.

  • Prepare & maintain the tracking of contract expiry dates as well as Not to Exceed (NTE) values for further modification procedures.

  • Assist to review invoices submitted by vendors.

Project reporting

This roles works under the direct supervision of the Chief Welfare Unit.

Key competencies
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in finance, accounting, budget, public or business administration or a related field is required.

  • At least three years of professional experience in finance, accounting, budget or administration is required.

  • Experience in the use of SAP & ERP systems is desirable.

  • Must be fluent in English.

  • Must posses a valid riving license.

  • Accountability, adaptability, flexibility, commitment to continuous learning, communication, integrity, planning, organizing, professionalism & working in teams are some of the key competencies required for this role.

This role has no team management responsibility.
