Overview of position

CTG is looking to contract an experienced Electoral Law Translator for our operations in Somalia, candidates interested in applying for this role must have relevant experience as outlined in this TOR & must adhere to the statements made in the "Further Information" section of this TOR.

Role objectives
  • Ensure that the translation text is technically, linguistically & grammatically correct, error free & meets high quality standards, without requiring further editing after completion of the translation.

  • Professional translation from / to Somali & English languages.

  • Provide accurate & timely translation to the satisfaction of organisational standards.

  • Observe confidentially & refrain from divulging any information about the content of the text.

  • Return the original of the documents to our clients office after completion of the services.

  • Translation shall be done within the stipulated deadlines in the work order.

  • Maximum percentage margin of errors per page should not be more than 3 %.

  • The documents translated remain the copyright of our client & should not be shared with any third party.

  • Fees will be paid upon actual provision of services & after getting the certification of the concerned staff member & after submission of invoice for the payment.

  • Payments will be wired to bank accounts.

  • Translation of documents from / to Somali & English Language. Each page will be calculated by 250 words (250 words per 1 page), translation of Power Point slides, per one slide.

  • Payments will be made against signed purchase orders & purchase orders done upon actual services delivered.

Project reporting

This role reports to the line manager & is required to assess the progress made against the assigned service on a quarterly basis,

Key competencies
  • Minimum of bachelor of law with five years of professional experience in translation & editing.

  • Demonstrated experience in translating professional documents.

  • Outstanding translation & editing skills in Somali & English.

  • Proven experience of translation / interpretation services.

  • Experience working with international development organisations is desirable.

  • Demonstrate effective organisational skills & ability to handle work in an efficient & timely manner.

  • Proficiency in English & Somali is a must.

Team management

This role has no team management responsibility.

Payment terms

  • Our client reserves the right to withhold all or a portion of payment if performance is unsatisfactory, if work / outputs is incomplete, not delivered or for failure to meet deadlines.
