| Overview of position |
Afghanistan faces significant natural hazard risks, including earthquakes, floods, droughts, landslides, sandstorms, and avalanches. These recurrent events are compounded by extreme winter conditions, particularly in mountainous areas that make up around 63% of the country. Many rural households lack adequate protection, and limited capacity within government institutions further exacerbates the vulnerabilities of affected or displaced families.
In alignment with its "Disaster Risk Management and Disaster Risk Reduction Framework," our client Afghanistan implements DRR activities aimed at building the resilience of disaster-prone communities. These efforts focus on enhancing preparedness and response capacities at the national, provincial, and community levels, empowering communities to better anticipate and respond to potential hazards. Under the direct supervision of the Program Officer (DRR), the Project Assistant (Translation & Communication Support) will assist in the implementation of project activities by providing translation and interpretation assistance during training, meetings, and daily office operations. The incumbent will also assist with communication and coordination with various stakeholders in Dari, Pashto, Turkish and English. |
