Overview of position

Under the overall supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer Project and direct supervision of the National Migration and Public Health Officers, and in coordination with LGA Primary Health Care Departments and facility in-charges, the incumbent will deliver integrated primary health care and maternal/newborn services through mobile clinics and outreach activities in Borno State. He/she will provide clinical care, support reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health services, and contribute to supportive supervision of supported PHC facilities to improve service quality, documentation, and adherence to national protocols. He/she will undertake the below tasks as mentioned in the TOR.

Role objectives
  • Conduct patient triage and initial clinical assessment during mobile clinics.

  • Provide nursing and midwifery care including ANC, PNC, family planning, newborn care, and basic emergency obstetric stabilization.

  • Administer medications, IV therapy, wound care, and other nursing procedures.

  • Identify high-risk pregnancies and danger signs requiring referral.

  • Support immunization, TB screening, and disease surveillance activities.

  • Maintain infection prevention and control standards.

  • Maintain accurate patient records and registers.

  • Conduct health education sessions on maternal, newborn, child health, and disease prevention.

  • Participate in supportive supervision visits to supported PHC facilities, including mentorship on maternal health documentation, service delivery standards, and IPC compliance.

  • Support quality improvement initiatives within supported facilities.

  • Monitor medical supplies and report stock levels.

  • Observing and staying up to date with the laws and statutory codes of medical practice.

  • Document, summarize and share monthly report of his PHCC activities to his/her supervisor.

  • Participate in design and formulation of unit policies, SOPs and clinical pathways.

  • Perform any other duties/task assigned by the Supervisor.

Project reporting

This role will work under overall supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer Project and direct supervision of the National Migration and Public Health Officers, and in coordination with LGA Primary Health Care Departments and facility in-charges.

Key competencies
  • University degree BSc Nursing, Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Midwife with a minimum of three years relevant clinical experience 

  • A valid license to practice nursing and/or midwifery in Nigeria 

  • Excellent technical skills, including especially in clinical general practice. 

  • Good knowledge of clinical care especially in the Primary or secondary Health Care settings in Nigeria. 

  • Experience in humanitarian or outreach/mobile health settings preferred. 

  • Experience in emergency obstetric care and maternal health services desirable. 

  • Experience participating in supportive supervision or mentoring junior staff is an advantage. 

  • Previous work experience with UN and/or international organizations would be an advantage. 

  • Training and experience in first aid and emergency health, Tuberculosis management, immunizations, mental health, communicable diseases, laboratory testing or public health is an advantage 

  • Computer literacy required: MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access) 

  • Good communication skills and proven ability in working in a team. 

  • Counselling, health promotion, public health or migration health skills/experience is a plus. 

  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines 

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain detail, accuracy, and confidentiality. 

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work under challenging areas/situations and drive for results.
