Overview of position

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non- governmental partners.  IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Under the overall supervision of the Outreach and  CPB protection Officer, the direct supervision of the Senior Protection Assistant (CBP), and in close coordination with other colleagues, the incumbent will assist in the implementation of IOM protection case management, Outreach and CBP activities.

Community-Based Protection (CBP) is a key approach aimed at ensuring the protection of vulnerable populations by involving communities as active participants in identifying and addressing protection risks. The CBP Outreach assistant will serve as a bridge between at-risk communities and protection services, fostering trust, understanding, and collaboration.

Role objectives

  • Support the planning, coordination, and facilitation of community dialogues in target locations, ensuring inclusive representation of vulnerable groups, including migrants, IDPs, Asylum seekers, women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

  • Design and conduct awareness-raising campaigns on key protection topics (e.g. access to documentation, GBV, child protection, trafficking risks, rights and entitlements) using participatory and culturally appropriate methods.

  • Draft and contribute to the development of information materials, including flyers, posters, brochures, and session guides, in coordination with the outreach and other relevant teams

  • Coordinate and conduct focus group discussions (FGDs) with community members, service providers, and community leaders to gather qualitative data on protection concerns, perceptions, and service gaps.

  • Undertake school-based assessments in coordination with education focal points and relevant IOM units to evaluate access to education, safety risks, and protection needs among children and adolescents.

  • Support the identification and capacity building of community focal points, peer educators, and local protection actors to support ongoing engagement and localized response mechanisms.

  • Monitor community protection trends and submit detailed reports capturing findings from dialogues, FGDs, and assessments, including risks, recommendations, and community feedback.

  • Coordinate with other IOM units (AVM, Child Protection, CT, MHPSS, VHR, etc.) and external partners to ensure smooth referrals and response for individuals identified through CBP activities.

  • Maintain a regularly updated mapping of service providers, community actors, and outreach materials, and ensure communities have access to up-to-date referral information.

  • Support the planning and implementation of community events, protection campaigns, or trainings in collaboration with local actors, including embassies and civil society organizations.

  • Perform administrative and logistical tasks related to the organization of field visits, awareness sessions, and community consultations.

  • Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with IOM’s protection principles and that the dignity, safety, and confidentiality of all community members are respected.
